Kamala Harris, the prospective candidate to become the head of the genocidal Democratic Party in the presidential election, is caught between the masses who condemn the genocide of the Palestinians and powerful Zionist lobbies who have deep and long lasting ties to her criminal outfit. Her liberal and meandering approach to the situation only results in a centrism on the question of genocide that will fall short of securing support from either side.
In a meeting with lead butcher Israeli Prime Nazi-Zionist Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Harris pushed the same “ceasefire” deal that Biden has been pushing, only with a little more rhetorical urgency. Biden claims that the only hold up to the deal is Hamas, and in the meantime puts more and more weapons in the hands of the Zionist state. As long as you pretend to condemn the atrocities, you can connive in making sure they reach even more atrocious proportions. This is the policy of the Democrats.
The attempts to appeal to both sides are paper thin. After police brutalized Palestine Solidarity demonstrators in Washington DC this week, Harris could not muster a single word in their defense, but instead focused on condemning the burning of a US flag. A flag does not have bills to pay, does not have children to feed, it does not bleed and it does not suffer in jails, people do. The protesters are a simple inconvenience to Harris, who is every bit as complicit as the rest of the Biden administration in the genocide of Palestinians.
The same as the rest of her gang, the presidential hopeful dotes on about Israel’s right to exist on occupied Palestinian land and its “right to defend itself”, which reverses the oppressed and the oppressor and refers to Hamas as “a brutal terrorist organization.” This sort of denial of reality is the affirmation of more than 75 years of the racist, genocidal propaganda machine. Israel is not primarily defending itself, it is a militarized fort on occupied land, it is defending the interests of billionaires in the USA. It has carried out genocide for the entirety of its existence and a bloody ethnic cleansing so that it could exist. The disproportionate level of violence between the occupied people and the occupation forces cannot be wiped away by sticking the old “terrorist” label on the people’s armed resistance forces.
The false narrative promoted by nearly every media outlet that it is an “Israeli-Hamas war” and not a war between the Zionist occupation forces and the Palestinian people plays neatly into Harris’s plans to squeeze votes from the young activists she condemns, it is the same tactic. Hamas, according to those who fear it, is “pure evil” and the entire problem rests on them; following this, young Americans protesting are also Hamas. Monopoly media portrays the Palestinians as being either perfect victims—including victims of their own people—or as bloodthirsty, barbaric savages. What they cannot do is show any support for those carrying out armed resistance for liberation, and must also condemn those in the US that do. This is the logic of imperialism, it brings genocide to the people and claims the people made them do it. This is what is found in Harris’s phony centrism: a supposed end to the genocide in order to maintain Israel’s existence and extend Israeli domination over the Gaza Strip—in other words, a tactical retreat to allow Israel to continue its genocide but by less overt means.
