We share below a call for solidarity from The Palestine Chronicle which is facing a lawsuit attempting to silence pro-Palestinian journalism. Dear friends and readers,
The Palestine Chronicle is under attack. A year ago, a well-funded team of lawyers filed a lawsuit against our organization and two of its principals. We believe this is a concerted effort to silence independent journalism and suppress the truth about Palestine. We know of similar lawsuits targeting other media outlets, and this legal pressure is a direct assault on our work.
We are a small, independent organization, and we can’t fight this battle alone. Unlike larger, well-funded organizations, we don’t have the resources to cover our legal expenses. Your immediate support is crucial.
The plaintiffs initially tried to claim that our articles, which are critical of Israel and the ongoing genocide in Gaza, were aiding ‘terrorism.’ The court has already rejected this baseless claim. Now, they are pursuing a new set of false allegations, making drummed-up claims with the aim of prolonging the case, though they have no basis in reality whatsoever.
We vehemently deny these claims and believe that this is another desperate attempt to indict independent media for exposing the truth about the genocide and famine in Gaza.
In fact, this lawsuit is not about us; it’s about making us guilty by association and creating a chilling effect on all media that challenge the mainstream narrative.
This is a war against the Palestine Chronicle but also against all of us – everyone who believes in truthful reporting and freedom of expression. They want to silence us, but we refuse to surrender our constitutional right to a free press.
