The top monopolists and their representatives convened December 3 at the annual New York Times DealBook Summit in Manhattan. The so-called “live journalism event” serves to legitimize and propagate the views of the bourgeoisie and their favorite lackeys directly rather than through the usual medium of reporting.
This year’s event dragged together some of the filthiest, most degenerate scum from the sewage of reaction: over a dozen CEOs, including Larry Fink of BlackRock—the world’s top finance monopoly which handles over $13 trillion of the world’s assets—and Alex Karp, co-founder and CEO of the military and tech monopoly Palantir that works closely with ICE and the US military; former Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Barak and current Prime Minister Nazi-Zionist Benjamin Netanyahu; and the ultra-reactionary political commentators Ben Shapiro and Erika Kirk, wife of the recently-annihilated and widely-hated Charlie Kirk, who spoke on her new leadership of Turning Point USA while defending sinister statements made by her annihilated husband, such as his calling the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a mistake.
Conversations focused on shoring up US imperialism amid its economic and political crises through increasing investment in tech and deepening its domination of its colonies and semi-colonies. Outside the event, protesters staged a demonstration, denouncing the summit and its whitewashing of imperialism’s crimes.
Monopolists Goad on Economic Crisis
Finance and tech monopolists bragged about the vast amount of capital they have concentrated while edging around questions about an “AI bubble”. “Bubbles” in the economy, or the over-saturation of capital, stems from the anarchic competition for profits under capitalism.
According to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, “The timing of this build out may underperform their investment criteria, but they’re certain that the demand will be there,” adding, “There are going to be some huge winners and huge failures.” In other words, as the market levels out from over-saturation, what follows is capital flight from the sector and deepening of the economic crisis, with the top monopolists consolidating their position through the increased centralization of capital.
For the capitalists, nothing can be done but to continue full speed ahead into crisis—a crisis that will be felt most viciously by working people: “If we don’t spend enough, faster and on A.I. digitization and tokenization, other countries are going to beat us,” Fink said. “This is why I love a capitalistic market.”
Zionist Delusions
The beleaguered Nazi-Zionist Netanyahu appeared at the conference virtually to cast a strong image as he faces international hatred for carrying out genocide while on trial for corruption in Israel. The New York Times, always ready to carry water for the world’s most hated man, gently asked the butcher how much longer he intends on staying in power. In a ranting and self-grandiose response, the Nazi-Zionist responded that he intends “to complete the quest for peace” and that he “liberated Israel’s economy from stagnant semi-socialism” through a “free market revolution”.
The “peace” of Zionism has meant murdering hundreds of thousands of civilians, while the “free market revolution” is a deep economic crisis, sinking the occupiers under the weight of the slaughter they carry out. The prime minister has to resort to delusional bragging because of the fact that none of his government’s stated military objectives have been realized despite years of genocide and crisis: the Palestinian resistance remains intact with Hamas at its head, the Arab resistance remains coordinated and armed, and Iran’s arsenal and nuclear enrichment program remain functioning.
Protesters Rally Against Imperialist Crimes
Outside, dozens of protesters demonstrated throughout the day, chanting and giving speeches against Zionism and US imperialism, and distributing flyers with information exposing the attendees of the DealBook event as monopoly parasites.
Organizers of the protests told The Worker, “Autonomous activists protested the NYT DealBook Summit because it served as a platform for some of the most destructive individuals in modern society and whitewashed their crimes. The NYT chose a lineup of speakers that perfectly represents their ethos… manufactur[ing] consent for genocide and numerous additional human rights violations in Palestine, South Sudan, and the Congo, and for all forms of capitalist exploitation. We stand with the working class, and all oppressed people, and stand against the NYT and their whitewashing of imperialist crimes.”
