Three years after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the people of the Middle East continue to rise against US imperialism and its attack dog Israel. The historic counteroffensive of the Palestinian national resistance, initiated October 7, 2023, marked a great advance for national resistance struggles and a victory for the international working class, and continues to shake the region and world today.
The Palestinian national resistance has demonstrated its genius and heroism, transforming its struggle in an isolated enclave into a wider war against imperialism and Zionism.
Over the past year, the Iranian people led by the Islamic Republic of Iran swept away the criminal war of aggression launched by US imperialism and its Zionist entity, providing a resounding example of mobilizing the people in arms against their enslavement and partition. Iran continues to resist and punish US-Zionist aggression, tightening the noose around US imperialism and reducing its maneuvering room.
In Yemen, Ansar Allah’s recent offensive expelled the regressive US-backed Saudi regime from important positions along the coast of the Red Sea. From the start of Al-Aqsa Flood, Ansar Allah pledged its support for the liberation of Palestine, teaching lessons in internationalism through its naval and aerial blockades of the Zionist criminals while mobilizing the Yemeni masses for their own liberation.
Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq—both of which provided armed support to the Palestinian resistance in the immediate aftermath of the initiation of Al-Aqsa Flood—have successfully resisted US-Zionist attempts to disarm them. Hezbollah and the PMF are succeeding in expelling their invaders: Israel has failed in its attempts to subdue and occupy southern Lebanon, and US forces have withdrawn from Iraq.
The struggles between oppressed nations and imperialism play the leading role in the world today, influencing the development of the other fundamental contradictions: that between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, and the contradictions among the imperialists.
Al-Aqsa Flood and the sequence of events it set in motion have particularly sharpened the development of all three fundamental contradictions on a world-scale.
In the US, the monopolists and their government ramped up military production and deepened austerity for the people, while sections of the monopolists reap record profits. Inflation accelerated, and record gasoline and diesel prices have sent economic shock waves through supply chains. The two ruling class parties face crises of popular support, first with the Democrat mafia’s full backing of Israel’s escalated genocide, and now with Trump’s failed war against Iran. The state has increased repression and militarization domestically in preparation for more war, while the masses have become increasingly politicized and rebellious against genocide and imperialist aggression. The working class continues to develop its trade union struggles for wages and working conditions, threatening to overflow the boundaries of the business unions and take on an increasingly political character.
Internationally, Al-Aqsa Flood and the ensuing struggles sharpened the resistance wars of the people of Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Iran while driving the US-Zionists into a wider and deeper quagmire. US imperialism has fled from Iraq without achieving its desired disarmament of the PMF, and US bomber planes are now even fleeing from the UK in fear of the Iranian just war of resistance reaching them there. The wars have also provoked massive protests in defense of Palestine against genocide and imperialism, as well as strikes and demonstrations over diesel and gasoline prices.
Imperialists and their lackeys are increasingly exposed as vicious beasts—beasts that can be defeated—giving the masses a moral impetus to fight the exploiters who resort to genocide to protect their profits and domination. It has made clearer who the friends and enemies of the people are, casting aside illusions in reformism and opening the way for revolution.
The heightened contradictions have also exacerbated rifts among North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries over the extent of their support for US imperialism’s war against Iran and the US’s open support for Israel. It has intensified contradictions between US imperialism and the imperialist superpower Russia and social-imperialist China in their collusion and contention for domination over the Third World.
These contradictions weaken and isolate the enemies, allowing the working class and oppressed nations to advance their struggles.
The struggles for national liberation and resistance take the form of national wars against imperialism, giving it an international content as the base force of world proletarian revolution. In this context, the leading forces of the resistance are principally progressive, while any reactionary trends within them are secondary. Overemphasizing these secondary trends serves to beautify imperialist aggression and must be opposed with firm internationalism.
The International Communist Movement is the guiding force of world proletarian revolution. Its task is to support and participate in these struggles of the oppressed nations, providing them with proletarian leadership to unite all anti-imperialist and anti-feudal classes for New Democratic Revolution and proceeding uninterruptedly to socialist revolution.
The conditions have never been better for the transformation of the world under the leadership of the working class, led by its communist parties. The development of regional armed resistance against US imperialism and its lackeys is an explosive precursor to world people’s war, foreshadowing an earth-shaking leap in which the armed masses sweep away imperialism and all of its props and lackeys.
We are in the period of the strategic offensive of the world proletarian revolution, marked by the most advanced decomposition of imperialism and the development and advance of people’s wars. The great, militant mobilizations of hundreds of millions of people around the world for Palestinian liberation, including armed solidarity actions in the region, speaks to the profundity of this era. The masses have turned the struggles of the Palestinian people into a permanent crisis for imperialism and its props, a fire that ebbs and flows but never goes out despite all the bloody repression.
Israel has been a thorn in the side of the people of the Middle East; with Al-Aqsa Flood, the Palestinian resistance has transformed the Zionist entity into a sinking weight for imperialism. US imperialism keeps coming to the aid of its rabid dog, only to go down further with it.
Revolutionaries and class-conscious workers must use the heroic example of Al-Aqsa Flood to educate the people that armed struggle is the sole path to liberation.
Revisionists and reformists avoid commemorating Al-Aqsa Flood. They seek to hide the powerful content of armed struggle behind vague, liberal appeals for human rights. They focus on condemning Israel’s genocide and publicizing death counts but stay silent on the victories of the armed struggle and the annihilation of Zionist troops. In their supposed effort to popularize the Palestinian struggle, these opportunists negate its lessons in a bid to appeal to imperialism and Zionist media.
Al-Aqsa Flood will be remembered as a turning point for world revolution on its torturous road to a shining future, one that all of humanity will enter as the people, with the proletariat at their helm and gun in hand, sweep away imperialism and world reaction.
