US Army Reserve Evaluates Troop Availability for Potential Cuba Invasion

The US Army Reserve is reportedly evaluating the availability of various support units for deployment to Latin America, according to an internal US Army message recently leaked to monopoly media.

According to CBS, which obtained the message, the US Army Reserve headquarters is requesting internal feedback on the availability of six types of formations—including police, medical personnel, and other support units—that would fall under the authority of the Southern Command, which covers the Caribbean Sea and Central and South America. The message gives a deadline of 90–120 days for the troops to be prepared.

While the message did not name specific targets, several sources who spoke anonymously with CBS said the request is implicitly aimed at Cuba.

On September 26, a day after CBS first reported the message, imperialist-in-chief Donald Trump brushed off the possibility of military action against Cuba.

“I would say that Cuba and us will make a deal,” Trump told reporters. “I don’t think we’ll need the military.”

This comes just days after Trump’s speech before the United Nations General Assembly, in which he denounced Cuba as a failed state and said, “Communism will never be coming to America, but freedom will be coming to Cuba.” The Cuban delegation walked out during Trump’s speech.

Brian Fonseca, Vice Provost for Defense and National Security Research at Florida International University, said the leak may be intended to pressure the Cuban government to accept the US imperialists’ demands and to shore up support for the Republican mafia in the upcoming midterm electoral farce.

Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have repeatedly threatened Cuba with invasion and regime change, particularly after the January 3 kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the subsequent installation of sellout President Delcy Rodríguez.

Under Maduro, Venezuela had traded much-needed oil to Cuba. Following the abduction of Maduro, US imperialism expanded its genocidal blockade against Cuba, causing a massive energy shortage intended to worsen the economic conditions for the Cuban people and compel them to overthrow the current government. These efforts to establish US domination over Cuba have received little to no popular support from the Cuban people.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel vowed in April that the nation would defend itself against US imperialist aggression, which has a long history of failure in its efforts to overthrow the Cuban government through military force, most notably with the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.

On September 27, Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, called the current fuel blockade and economic sanctions “equivalent to genocide.” Fernandez de Cossio also reiterated what Díaz-Canel has said: that Cuba would exercise its right to self-defense.

Over the past two years, US imperialism has sought to deepen its hegemony over Latin America under the “Trump Corollary” of the Monroe Doctrine. In September 2025, US imperialism initiated “Operation Southern Spear,” and has since murdered more than 230 Venezuelan, Ecuadorian, and Colombian fishermen in about 80 boat strikes in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean as part of a terror campaign to intimidate the people of Latin America.
