Resistance Operations Develop in West Bank as Hezbollah Carries out Reconnaissance

Farrukh Abadi

Fierce fighting continues in the West Bank as Israel’s escalating and expanding assault nears its two-week mark. In Jenin, Hamas’s al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for an explosion that killed and injured several Israeli soldiers. Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, also claimed operations causing Israeli casualties in Tulkarm and Yamoun Friday afternoon.

So far around 20,000 Jenin residents have been displaced and at least 19 killed and dozens more injured in Israel’s genocidal “Operation Iron Wall” aimed at subduing resistance and annexing the West Bank. Israel unleashed the operation shortly after signing the ceasefire with Hamas and resistance forces in Gaza, and after an unsuccessful weeks-long siege of Jenin by the lackey Palestinian Authority forces.

Meanwhile, an Israeli law banning UNRWA, the United Nations agency responsible for delivering aid to Palestinians, went into effect Thursday in an effort to continue its genocide through starvation. The law bans the agency’s operation in “the sovereign territory of the state of Israel”, according to Israel’s Supreme Court, meaning Gaza and much of the West Bank is not included in the ban, though occupied Jerusalem is. However, it remains to be seen how the law will be implemented.

Imperialist European countries have condemned this move, as it opens up a vacuum for regional powers such as Iran or imperialist powers like China to fill, weakening European interests in the region. Iran has already signaled its desire to send aid to Gaza. At the same time, the successful Operation al-Aqsa Flood has proven that the masses will rebel when subjected to such deprivation—something the European powers do not want to see repeated.

On Friday, Israeli armed forces continued to violate the ceasefire with Lebanon, with over 820 violations recorded over the course of the last 66 days since the ceasefire went into effect.

Israel claims to have intercepted a reconnaissance drone by Lebanese resistance party Hezbollah, indicating that Hezbollah maintains its air and intelligence capabilities after forcing Israel into a ceasefire on the Zionists’ northern front. Hezbollah has previously released footage of sensitive military infrastructure deep inside Israel, demonstrating its ability to bypass Israeli security forces and reach long-range targets.
