Palestinian Resistance Fires Rockets into Israel as Occupation Forces Invade Gaza

On Sunday (04/06), Al Qassam Brigades launched a barrage of rockets into Israeli-occupied territory in the midst of the renewed Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip. According to the Israeli military, 10 rockets entered Israeli airspace, half of which they failed to intercept, with at least one injury reported from the resulting explosions.

Hamas stated that the rocket strikes were in response to the recent Israeli massacres of civilians in Gaza. Since fully breaking its ceasefire with the Palestinian armed resistance on March 18, Israel has killed over 1,200 Palestinians and displaced hundreds of thousands. The Israeli military has issued evacuation orders for Palestinians in Rafah, Khan Younis, and several parts of northern Gaza, intensifying its ethnic cleansing efforts.

In response to the rocket strikes by the resistance forces, Israel carried out a wave of airstrikes in Gaza, killing 56 Palestinians in less than 24 hours. In addition to continued massacres from the air, the Israeli occupation forces have deployed ground forces to the newly-declared “Morag Corridor” in an effort to surround Rafah and militarily strangle its population into submission.

The Palestinian armed resistance has responded to Israel’s genocidal re-invasion with a series of guerrilla attacks on the occupation forces in Gaza. On March 24, militants launched a barrage of rockets at Sderot, an Israeli settlement located on the Gaza–Israel barrier. On March 31, Islamic Jihad’s Al Quds Brigades launched rockets at the Hatzerim Israeli Air Force Base located in the Negev Desert of southern Israel. On April 6, Palestinian resistance fighters planted an IED that destroyed an Israeli tank during the occupation forces’ incursion into the Shujaiya neighborhood of eastern Gaza City.

The Israeli occupation forces have also escalated attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, sending armored vehicles into the Jenin refugee camp, carrying out several raids and stings, and arresting hundreds they claim are resistance fighters. The comprador Palestinian Authority also launched a wave of arrests aimed at suppressing demonstrations in the West Bank that were part of a global call for a general strike in solidarity with Gaza.
