Reactionary Old-State Desperate to Capture Suspect in Anti-ICE Armed Action

Shots that echoed the people’s fury against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rang out July 4th at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, leading to the arrest of 10 accused. Subsequently, an 11th person was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, and now the old-state is desperate to capture a 12th person accused of taking part in the action.

Benjamin Hanil Song is being hunted by the combined forces of reaction, though yet no signs have been reported. According to the FBI, Song has been trained as a former Marine Corps reservist. He has been charged with three counts of attempted murder of federal agents. The reactionaries say he should be “considered armed and dangerous.”

Following the established pattern of the old-state when it comes to cases of this magnitude is to shoot first and ask questions later, a pattern which increases the probability of extrajudicial killing of suspects who dare to confront the old-reactionary powers with gun in hand.

The ruling class, with the collaboration of monopoly media, has already spread Song’s picture and boasted the bribe offered by the state to turn the masses into snitches. The mass uprisings, however, prove that such actions do not pass without sympathies among the people. This fact is further established by how ICE agents operate, with names and faces concealed knowing full well that they must hide from the people as they carry out the dirty task of right-wing chauvinist, anti-working-class terror.

Refusal to talk to the police is seen by undocumented workers, revolutionaries, and increasing numbers of the broad masses as a fundamental principle of community self-defense, forcing the old state to increase its bribes to get evidence and information they cannot otherwise obtain. Due to the fact that the FBI keeps payouts of rewards confidential, there is little proof to indicate that the snitches are ever paid anything for their betrayal of the people, except for the social alienation and threats faced to their person by the very people they betrayed. The fact remains that the masses need no reward to carry out people’s justice and it is the reactionaries who must resort to financial bribery, more evidence that they do not act in the interests of the people.
