More Evidence Emerges of US and Israeli Losses in Iran War

Newly revealed satellite imagery suggests an important communication structure at the US’s Al-Udeid Airbase in Qatar has been destroyed by Iran’s June 23 retaliatory attack. The $15 million geodesic dome was used for secure communications by the US military and is so far the only damage on the base reported by monopoly media. The US military has yet to publicly acknowledge the destruction. The recent report adds to the increasing evidence of Iran’s successful operations against the US and Israel over the course of its war of national defense against US-Israeli aggression.

On June 23, Iran launched 14 missiles at the Al-Udeid Airbase in Qatar, the US’s largest military base in the region housing around 10,000 troops and serving as the regional central command. The attack was in retaliation for the 14 30-ton bunker busting bombs the US illegally dropped on Iranian nuclear facility a day prior, costing US taxpayers $1-2 billion and has since been widely acknowledged to have failed in destroying Iran’s nuclear enrichment.

In the aftermath of the Iranian attack, Trump called it a “very weak response”, claiming that the Iranians gave the US advanced notice and that, of the 14 missiles, “13 were knocked down, and 1 was ‘set free,’ because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction.”

As the The Worker previously reported, claims by Trump and monopoly media like The New York Times that Iran downplayed its attack as an act of surrender is the opposite of what happened—it was the US and its monopoly press that downplayed the Iranian attack in order to save face for its withdrawal, just as Trump did during his first term following Iranian retaliatory attacks on US bases in Iraq.

Following the attack, the US called for a ceasefire—an admission of defeat after failing to achieve its objectives, and a victory for Iran, who was able to establish deterrence through significant costs to the US and Israel.

The evidence of Iran’s successful strike on the US base comes just days after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced for the first time on Tuesday (07/08) that its military bases were struck by Iranian missiles during the war. The IDF was forced to admit to their losses after researchers at Oregon State University used radar satellite data to prove that Israeli military sites had been damaged.

An article published on the Hebrew Times of Israel titled “People cling to achievements out of anxiety and ongoing suffering” sums up the damage done by Iran like this: “The victory over Iran cost the lives of 29 Israelis / 3,228 wounded / The fighting cost 28 billion shekels [$8.4 billion]; Compensation: NIS 7 billion [$2.1 billion] so far, and the amount is expected to increase / Damage to the economy: NIS 900 million [$271 million] per day / Thousands of homes have been destroyed and 18,000 residents displaced / Hospitals, a refinery and, according to foreign reports, military bases have also been damaged / Laboratories have been destroyed and years of research have gone down the drain / And the mental state of many Israelis has deteriorated”.

These figures may be even higher, as Israel maintains a tight military censor to hide its losses in the face of its increasingly compromised situation.
