Actions in the US for Dr Sernas, Disappeared Lawyer for Political Prisoners in Mexico

Activists in the United States took part in the international campaign demanding the presentation of Dr. Sernas alive this year, answering Sol Rojo-Mexico’s call to demand the presentation alive of Dr. Sernas and the many other disappeared people’s defenders and fighters in Mexico, who have been targeted by the Old State and its lackeys. The call to action was in the context of August 30, International Day of the Detained-Disappeared. Dr. Ernesto Sernas Garcia, professor, essayist, and lecturer based in Oaxaca, Mexico, was disappeared in 2018 while defending in his capacity as a lawyer the 23 political prisoners of June 7, 2015, members of Current of the People-Red Sun (Sol Rojo).

Sol Rojo-Mexico wrote in its call to action:

“The case of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García is the latest documented politically motivated forced disappearance in Oaxaca, and therefore the same case as thousands of colleagues who have been disappeared by the old State in retaliation for their political activities as activists, grassroots, student, peasant, or union leaders, guerrillas, and communists. The case of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García is internationally relevant and is being addressed by the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances in Urgent Action 540/2018.

“Therefore, it is important that this August 30th, their names and faces be displayed throughout the country, so that their captors continue to hear and see them everywhere.”

In the United States, activists of the Puget Sound Revolutionary Student Union in Washington state gathered for a presentation on the case of the disappearance of Dr. Sernas and spoke in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Elina in Brazil. The importance of the strategic offensive of the World Proletarian Revolution and the growing anti-imperialist movement post October 7th was highlighted.
