An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer murdered 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good at 9:30am January 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, shooting her multiple times in the face at close range during a large-scale ICE operation. In response to Good’s murder, protests erupted against ICE in Minneapolis and in cities across the country.
Renee Nicole Good was murdered in a residential area south of downtown Minneapolis. Video footage verified by Minnesota Public Radio News shows ICE agents approaching Good and aggressively trying to force open her driver-side door while she sat in her SUV. When Good attempted to drive away, an ICE agent shot her multiple times through her windshield. Good was a respected community member and mother of 3.
Shortly after the murder, Minneapolis residents began gathering to protest ICE and Border Patrol agents at the scene of the incident. Video footage collected by the Youtube channel Status Coup shows protesters fearlessly confronting ICE and Border Patrol agents in the area. As ICE and Border Patrol shoved protesters out of the way, protesters held their ground and pelted the agents with snowballs. At one point, protesters formed a physical barricade to block a truck filled with ICE Agents while masked BORTAC (Border Patrol Tactical Unit) agents shot tear gas, pepper spray, and pepper balls point-blank at demonstrators.
In spite of repression from ICE and Border Patrol, protesters remained in the area and held a vigil for Nicole that evening that drew thousands of people. After the vigil, at least 1,000 protesters marched across major roads from the place where Good was murdered through downtown Minneapolis chanting “Fuck ICE, ICE out” and “Whose streets? Our Streets!” The march made its way to the location where the Third Precinct of the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) once stood, a building that was famously burned down during the George Floyd Uprisings in May of 2020. Pausing in front of the razed Third Precinct building, protesters chanted “MPD, KKK, ICE, they’re all the same!” ICE murdered Good just one mile from the scene of George Floyd’s murder by the police in 2020.
A woman interviewed during the march by Status Coup News said “We heard about it earlier today and we were all disgusted and we know we had to come up to try to take a stand and stop this stuff…we need to start uniting, we need to not be afraid…”. Another protester who was interviewed during the march said “I think the man needs to be arrested because we’re not putting up with that shit. We’re not going to let this slide.”
The presence of 2,000 ICE agents in Minneapolis, dubbed by the reactionary state as “Operation Metro Surge” began this month following allegations of child care fraud involving Somali residents, which have since been proven fabrications of the Republican mafia and their paid “influencer” Nick Shirley. Shirly’s “exposé” of “fraud” was based on information provided by David Hoch, a Republican operative and lobbyist.
Hours after Good was murdered, the Department of Homeland Security’s spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin began to cover up and spin Good’s murder, releasing a tweet on X claiming that the ICE acted in self-defense: “one of these violent rioters weaponized their vehicle” and that an ICE agent “used his training to save his own life and that of his fellow officers.”
Ultra-Reactionary President Donald Trump echoed the DHS’s tweet, adding his own embellishments claiming that Good “viciously ran over” the ICE agent, in spite of the video of the incident which has spread across social media blatantly disproving such claims.
In response to the protest, Minnesota Governor and former Vice Presidential candidate Tim Waltz of the Democrat Mafia ordered the Minnesota National Guard on standby. Although formally declaring the ICE presence unnecessary and telling the Trump administration, “You’ve done enough,” the National Guard serves the purpose of suppressing mass revolt and not protecting the people of Minneapolis from being murdered by federal agents; nor can it prevent those agencies from conducting terror campaigns in the city.
Mayor Frey, also of the Democrat Mafia, appealed to outrage by saying “ICE get the fuck out of Minneapolis” while taking no material action to prevent the open campaign of terror and murder unfolding there and across the country.
