The war of aggression launched against Iran by US imperialism and its lackey Israel on February 28 aims to provoke the maximum instability in the oppressed nation. In opposition to this, Iran and anti-imperialist forces in the region have launched a heroic defensive war that threatens to swallow the enemy in a sea of armed masses.
The interests of US imperialism go beyond simple “regime change” and include the destruction of the Iranian nation in the interests of deepening US imperialist domination of the Greater Middle East, unlocking further expansion of the area controlled and occupied by Zionism. The ultra-reactionaries dream of repeating the Syrian Civil War in Iran and are poised to carry out genocide.
The US imperialist aggression aims to protect its status as the sole-hegemonic imperialist superpower. The increasingly unified and militarized national liberation movements in the Middle East have eroded US positions, particularly weakening its military outpost Israel over the past few years.
The decision to attack Iran fulfills the dark dreams of the US ruling class, something the two party mafias and their monopoly media have been preparing for decades. The war’s calamity will exacerbate their internal strife.
The deepening divisions between the Democrat and Republican mafias, and within the Republican mafia itself at its highest levels over the past week already prove the success of Iran’s resistance.
Despite their tactical differences, the two party mafias fundamentally collude to continue the military operation and replenish spent munitions. They pass austerity measures at home to fund the bombing of the oppressed people of Iran and the Middle East. They lack popularity and are essentially weak.
The Trump administration was riding high off the capture of Venezuelan President Maduro and the subsequent capitulation of the old-state in Venezuela. They expected quick success with Iran and were immediately proven wrong, slapped in the face by endless barrages of Iranian drones and missiles.
US imperialism’s numerous military bases are proving to be points of weakness rather than strength, providing more targets for the resistance. A US ground invasion would fare even worse for the imperialists and drive another nail in the coffin of Zionism; just look at the graveyards of Zionist troops in Gaza and south Lebanon.
The Iranian resistance has not only dealt strong defensive blows to its aggressors, but in doing so it has inspired national liberation forces around the world to follow in their fighting example.
While US imperialist and Zionist policy is to “project strength”, they are experienced in weakness and already suffer losses they try to hide through military censorship.
The assassination of Khamenei demonstrates this weakness. The Worker has indicated previously how targeted assassinations do not end resistance movements, but instead provide examples of giving one’s life for the people. Khamenei was 86 years old when he was assassinated, and to give one’s life in this way is far more powerful than to die of old age in one’s sleep.
The liberal approach to the war seeks to disarm the people of the glorious example of Iranian resistance. This disorients the world proletarian revolution from its base in the national liberation struggles. Such viewpoints begin with quantity of life lost and condemn imperialism but in the process echo its strength projections and spread pessimism. Such reporting is scandalous and right-opportunist.
Active elements, class conscious workers, and intellectuals who side honestly as internationalists with the people of the world have a special duty to assume their posts on the front lines of the broad movement to oppose this unjust war and uphold the right to self-defense against US imperialism. The continued militarization of the old-reactionary US state must be opposed. The masses and mainly the working class clamor for organized leadership to oppose it.
