Iran fired missiles at an Israeli airbase on June 7 after Israel struck apartment buildings in a suburb of the Lebanese capital of Beirut in violation of the April 8 ceasefire.
According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the targeted airbase was responsible for the attacks on the Lebanese people. Iran had previously promised to retaliate should the US and Israel violate the terms of the ceasefire, particularly warning against any incursions in Beirut.
Israeli strikes in Beirut killed at least two and injured 20, including women and children, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu alleged that the apartment buildings were Hezbollah headquarters, but available evidence suggests that they were strictly used for residential purposes.
In response to Iranian attacks on Israel’s airbase, the Zionists retaliated with strikes in western and central Iran on June 8.
Iran announced Operation Victory and launched new aerial attacks against Israel later the same day, targeting two other Zionist airbases. Iranian attack drones were affixed with flyers saying, “We will not abandon Lebanon.”
According to the IRGC, the attack was a “response to the child-killing Zionist regime’s missile aggression against several radar sites in three parts of the country.”
The Yemeni Armed Forces of resistance group Ansar Allah also launched missiles against Israel on June 8 and announced the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait to Israel.
Iraqi resistance organization Kataib Hezbollah stated that US bases will be set ablaze in Iraq and throughout the region if the US intervenes.
The IRGC described the strikes against Israel as a warning, adding, “If aggressions are repeated, the responses will be more extensive and will encompass all US-Zionist targets in the region.”
A senior Iranian official said the missile strikes were launched from a site Trump claimed to have destroyed. US monopoly media cited US intelligence reports in May that Iran maintains 70-90% of its pre-war military capacity.
According to monopoly outlet Axios, Trump called Netanyahu on Sunday, requesting that he not retaliate against Iran. Trump told Axios that he is “very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal. I don’t want it to blow up because of what is happening now.” Iran has repeatedly emphasized that any ceasefire deal must include an end to Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
