Several hundred people protested against ongoing US imperialist and Zionist intervention in Venezuela on July 24.
The protest, in the capital of Caracas, opposed the recent deployment of US and Israeli personnel to Venezuela under the cover of earthquake relief. The protest was called for by a new organization called the Anti-Imperialist Front.
Protesters burned American and Israeli flags and trampled on images of US imperialist-in-chief Donald Trump and Zionist genocidaire Benjamin Netanyahu, chanting “This isn’t aid, it’s an occupation!”
Activist Miguel Mora, wearing a red keffiyeh, told reporters that the protesters, “armed with class conscience and anti-imperialism, are going to resist imperialism.” Mora also said Venezuelan workers and peasants were “not allowed to fight” back during the January 3 US military operation that kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
Organizers chose July 24 to coincide with two anniversaries: one month since the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that have reportedly killed more than 5,500 people, and the 243rd anniversary of the birth of national liberation hero Simón Bolívar, who led independence struggles across much of Latin America against Spanish colonialism.
Among those deployed to Venezuela were Israel Defense Forces officers Yossi Pinto and Roni Kaplan, who participated in the recent genocidal Zionist campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon. Sell-out acting President Delcy Rodríguez praised them as “highly trained and professional.”
Venezuela has not had diplomatic relations with Israel since 2009, when former President Hugo Chávez severed ties with the Zionist occupation. President Maduro had continued the policy.
The July 24 protest demonstrates the failure of US imperialism to subjugate the Venezuelan masses, who continue struggling for national liberation. The invaders hoped installing Rodríguez—as opposed to the more naked collaborator María Corina Machado—would stave off resistance due to her previous position as Vice President under Maduro. Instead, protests against US imperialism are breaking out again, while increasingly exposing the collaborationist role of the Rodríguez government.
“Venezuelans are not cowards,” Mora said to media. “We are going to fight and expel the invading gringo from our homeland!”
