The Communist Party of India (Maoist) calls on the people of the world to observe Martyrs’ Memorial Week from July 28-August 3.
July 28 is the anniversary of the assassination of Charu Mazumdar, the Great Leader of the Indian revolution who was murdered by the Indian old-state in 1972. The week of powerful mobilizations and solidarity in India and across the world honors the masses, activists, and revolutionaries who have given their lives for the revolution.
CPI (Maoist) wrote in a 2024 message on the occasion of Martyrs’ Memorial Week, “The sacrifice of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the liberation of the oppressed people of the world and nationalities shall never go waste!”
CPI (Maoist) leads the masses of India in a protracted people’s war, a New Democratic Revolution that targets feudalism, bureaucrat-capitalism, and imperialism for the conquest of power and establishment of a people’s dictatorship under the leadership of the proletariat.
The old Hindutva-fascist Indian state seeks to drown the revolution in blood; they are gripped by the dark fantasies of reaction, and only irrigate the indomitable spirit of the revolution. Its allies include the revisionist elements and agents of the old order in disguise, who seek to liquidate and defeat the people’s war internally. These snitches, traitors and vermin argue that India is no longer semi-feudal and to abandon the path of surrounding the cities from the countryside and call for the end of the People’s War.
The Indian government has launched campaign after campaign against the Maoist forces, each time promising to be close to victory, only to fail again and again. On March 30, India’s Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the country is free of Maoists. Four months later, the People’s War continues, exposing the cheap psychological tricks of the old-state.
Its latest operation, named Kagaar (which translates to “brink”, as part of the government’s psychological operation to portray the Maoists as being on the brink of defeat), was launched in 2024 and continues to this day, mobilizing thousands of state forces against the revolutionaries, workers, peasants, and progressive intellectuals. The counter-revolutionary war aims to genocide the people while making way for multinational corporations, such as mining and logging monopolies.
Operation Kagaar is the largest encirclement and annihilation campaign waged by the old-state. Its principal aim is to annihilate the leadership of the revolution, and then separate the guerrilla from the masses. It seeks to destroy the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist), the commanders of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army, and the leaders of revolutionary governments and mass organizations. In May of last year, the General Secretary of CPI (Maoist), Comrade Basavaraj, fell in glorious combat while fighting to break the encirclement. His name is forever inscribed on the banners of Maoists everywhere, and continues to be held aloft all over the world in commemoration.
Operation Kagaar must be understood in both of its aspects, high-intensity and low-intensity warfare. The Operation involves the use of the military, its auxiliary police forces, the paramilitary forces, the gangs, all of which carry out the most vile and sinister actions against those who are accused of ties to the democratic revolution. It also involves the traitors and liquidationists, who make ideological attacks on the revolution from within, as well as making public proclamations and police-work that result in the abduction and torture of mass activists by the state.
Operation Kagaar seeks to strengthen the influence of the revisionists, especially the denial of the semi-feudal character of the country, and liquidate the People’s War. This is to deny the New Democratic Revolution and put an end to its tactics and strategy. They aim, like all liquidationists, to provoke defection from the revolutionary organizations by spreading confusion, lies, and demoralization. To do this, they have unfurled many deceptions, not the least of which is postmodernism.
The reactionaries, imperialists, and revisionists are all doomed. The New Democratic Revolution in India is not going to be defeated; it has not been cowed or made to surrender. Martyrs’ Memorial Week proves that the support and internationalist devotion to the Party and the combatants of the People’s War are on the advance. The greatest proof is demonstrated in the continuation of the invincible armed struggle led by the Party.
The fight for a new society in India transpires in the heroic traditions of the Party, its army, and the masses of workers and peasants, and with it comes the continued accumulation of martyrs whose blood dyes our red flag. While the loss of these comrades brings sorrow, more than anything it brings courage in battle and inspiration to the fight.
In commemoration of Martyrs’ Memorial Week, raise awareness and support for the New Democratic Revolution, and denounce the crimes of Operation Kagaar and the complicity of the liquidationists and traitors.
