Workers at the Amazon SWF1 Fulfillment Center in Rock Tavern, NY, launched a one-day unfair labor practice (ULP) strike on September 29 over unsafe working conditions.
According to a press release from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), workers face dangerous conveyor belt speeds, cluttered aisles and walkways, and write-ups for not meeting intensive productivity standards.
The press release cited the dangers of Amazon’s so-called labor sharing policy, which reassigns workers to other departments without proper training.
Workers have attempted to raise their concerns on the company-run digital forum “Voice of the Associate” (VOA), but according to strikers, managers deleted all their posts detailing unsafe conditions and hazards.
Eileen Heard, a spokesperson for Amazon, claimed that the strikers are a small group of “outside organizers”. At least 70 warehouse workers participated in the walkout and strike.
Amazon pursues an aggressive strategy of union-busting across its workplaces. The monopoly reports spending $25 million on anti-union consultants in 2025, the highest union-busting expenditure reported in a single year to the Department of Labor.
Amazon has not responded to the workers demands, instead reiterating empty talking points on safety.
