Democratic Mafia Seeks to Shore Up US Imperialism With “Blue Wave”

The Democratic mafia took control of the US House of Representatives and Senate with the midterm electoral farce on November 3, dealing a blow to the Republican mob in the competition for control of the state bureaucracy.

The Democratic Mafia’s Celebrations Belie Their Party’s Crisis

In a particularly triumphalist article by the monopoly news outlet The Guardian, we encounter an accidental truth: “US voters rebuke Trump”; what the press sympathetic to the Democratic mob wants to make of this fact stretches reality. With few exceptions, people were not voting for Democratic Party politicians or their policies, but were voting against Donald Trump and his, and by extension all those he endorsed.

The Guardian boasts of Trump’s handpicked candidates being “swept away by a blue tsunami” and that “the American people… delivered him a bloody nose of historic proportions.” Yet, in none of this bragging will one find arguments that anyone was actually inspired by and voted for Democrat policy. This indicates something true about the elections, that voting in them is cynical. It is nothing but a way to protest the administration.

Such articles inherently realize that the section of society that does vote is also opposed to the criminal war of aggression against Iran, angry over consequential fuel prices, and the inflation that has continued to batter them at the grocery store. This minority of people are those desperate enough to hope that “voting blue no matter who” will somehow slow the brutal machines of the reaction to a more bearable level of suffering. The more class-conscious sections of society express their disapproval not at the polls but with rocks, bottles, and fires in the mass protest movements and uprisings that have marked the first half of Trump’s second term.

The Democratic mobsters are full of arrogance. Incoming Democratic US Senator for Texas James Talarico said in his victory speech, “We just took back Texas,” going on to reference biblical stories, positioning himself as David in the myth of David and Goliath. Talarico’s campaign was full of such claims, denying that there exists a contradiction between the left and right politically and serving up lukewarm populism by combining “Christian values” with cost-of-living politics. In many respects, he won by simply being the Republican against Trump.

As for his claims of taking back Texas, we do not have to look a lot further than the fact that Texas having just become a “blue state” is unlikely to reverse any of its most reactionary laws. With the Texas Republicans still holding a majority in the Texas State Senate by 19-12, it is a pipe dream to think the state’s extreme abortion ban is going anywhere. Likewise, the electoral win for Gina Hinojosa in the governor race over far-right Greg Abbott is not likely to end the assault on public education led by his crowd. The School Voucher Program, meant to be a prototype for the abolition of public education, has been written into law, and the former school administrator and governor-elect cannot repeal it even if she had the guts to take up that fight. This all highlights the impotency of the claim of taking anything back.

Despite the cackles, the Democratic Party remains in crisis. According to a September poll by Gallup, the majority of the people disdain both parties, with only 43% of the population reportedly having a favorable view of the Democratic mafia, and 35% for the Republican mafia.

It is evident that the “blue wave” will recede as soon as the Democrats show themselves once again to be as genocidal and plundering as their Republican counterparts, and they will be left in a malaise as before.

The problem the imperialist parties face is that when they are not the ruling party, they can pass off all the blame for imperialism’s continued degeneration and crimes to the ruling party. But when they take the helm, they must oversee the same degeneration, and so they are forced to justify their crimes and spread illusions about them.

The trends of imperialism to concentrate more power around the executive branch; to increase the concentration of wealth through greater monopolization; to increase militarization, mass murder, plunder, and exploitation—these continue irrespective of the will of any single politician and operate according to the fundamental laws of imperialism.

Democrat mobsters overseeing the transfer of arms to Israel at the height of its genocide under Biden now claim to be indignant as the genocide continues and expands under the Trump administration. The Biden administration claimed the economy was the greatest it had ever been during the economic crisis, a lie the Republicans were able to exploit for their landslide win in 2024. Now that the baton has been passed, Trump plays the fool while the Democrats laugh.

Social Democrats Progress Their Reactionary Agenda

The social democrats, whether or not they masquerade as socialists, revive Trump’s “America First” agenda but with less chauvinist rhetoric. Their aim is a slightly more balanced distribution of the superprofits US imperialism reaps from its domination and plunder abroad, their method is class collaboration based on left populism, and their base is middle to low-income professionals.

As the Democrats now have a comfortable majority in the House, the handful of social democrats will be sidelined to political stunts to help boost the potential presidential run of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others. While small, these forces play an out-sized and sinister role in the elections and the ensuing political theater by bringing hope in the electoral farce and preaching about a peaceful or benign imperialism. They promote pacifism and reformism in the mass movement, a corrosive agent the Democrats use to clean their bloody image and place the mass mobilizations under their stranglehold.

DSA member and Representative-elect Melat Kiros said in an interview with Democracy Now on November 3 that she aims to “earn back that trust” in the government “by delivering material changes.” This is the essence of social democracy, mobilizing the people behind imperialism through bribery.

However, the bribery of sections of society on the basis of monopoly superprofits erodes over time due to growing resistance in the oppressed countries, inter-imperialist competition, the tendency of the rate of profit to fall, and the sharpening of the class struggle at home. The bribery, and the petty bourgeois influence over the worker’s movement and activism, is countered by bringing Marxism to the working class, and persisting in the fires of the class struggle.

Republicans Divide

Republican officials at the highest levels are turning on each other following their party’s setback, and several face the prospect of impeachment.

Impeachment efforts that were suppressed by the Republican mob will gain traction with the new Congress in January. In the meantime, Republicans have already chosen Secretary of War Pete Hegseth as their sacrifice: Republican Representative Thomas Massie told CNN shortly after election night that he plans on renewing impeachment efforts against Hegseth as early as next week, with many Republican officials expecting it will pass.

Trump, recognizing his crisis, offered a congratulatory message to the Democrats while commenting to CBS News, “I have total veto power and I’m sure we’ll be able to work things out.” The aging crook is preempting the next few years of calls from both mafias to “reach across the aisle” in order to best push the cost of the economic crisis onto the poor, while still struggling for total control over the state’s bureaucracy.

He attributed the electoral defeats for his mob to the fact that he was not personally on the ballot and rising gasoline prices, while telling The Wall Street Journal with respect to the invasion of Iran, “I did the right thing. I would have done it again.”

For his mob, there are greater cracks forming around the very issues of Trump’s patriarchal role and his war of aggression against Iran. Vice President JD Vance publicly broke with Trump’s messaging, blaming the invasion of Iran for the electoral defeat as he positions himself as Trump’s successor in the 2028 presidential elections.

The successes of the Iranian resistance underlie Trump’s defeat, again demonstrating that the principal contradiction in the world today is between imperialism and the oppressed nations.

What Comes Next?

For the working class, it will be much of the same. With the current field being divided and the increase in the “reaching across the aisle” rhetoric, it is unlikely that any significant changes will take place that preserve the rights of workers or their hard won gains. This is not even thinkable without a well-organized labor movement that is not at the mercy and bidding of the Democratic or Republican mobs.

The gridlock between the legislature and the executive will give further impulse to reactionization, with Trump bypassing Congress through executive decree. The Trump administration has been preparing for this since regaining office, using the willingness of the Republican majorities in both chambers to sideline themselves for the sake of executive power.

We can expect the crisis to deepen among the Republican mob as their counterparts in blue repackage the old “America First” chauvinism for themselves. While the advantage goes to the Democratic mob, and they will be able to blame any of their failures on Trump, they cannot help but harm themselves by letting the advantage go to their heads, and continue demonstrating that they do not represent a way out of the nightmare of reactionization and decomposition the entire society in this country is experiencing. Overall the crisis facing the two mobs will deepen.

The Democrats will use their new position to hound Republican-aligned monopolists such as trillionaire Elon Musk while reverting federal payouts to their own donors. This is ultimately the spoils of the elections—the economic concessions for the monopolists that backed the winning team.

The party that funded Israel’s expanded genocide and prepared the grounds for the Iran War will not curb imperialism. At most, they will press for alternative tactics: instead of direct war, they will use lackey armed forces, sanctions, and starvation—according to The Lancet Global Health, sanctions have proven to be the more murderous.

While Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) terrorist campaigns will continue, this is an easy area for the Democratic mob to score points with their base by at least pretending to impose a little more oversight. This will prove to be performative. They will focus mainly on formal enforcement tactics, such as the use of masks—things that do not fundamentally diminish the terror. Everyone knows the local police terrorize Black people routinely without masks and in the presence of body cameras. Materially, however, the absurd budget awarded the terrorist agency will not see significant change.

The tariffs on steel and other construction materials—basically anything imported and used in the production process—are set to rise, and the monopolists pass this increased cost onto the working class by lowering wages. The government plans to decrease funding to the Department of Labor by 26% in 2027, which will likely not be blocked by the “blue wave.” The cruel and excessive destruction of the productive forces to drive up competition for lower wages among the working class is an economic response to the crisis of overproduction; this condition is likewise not set to change at the behest of any political faction.

The coming years show a continuation of the economic crisis, and a short reprieve in the political crisis only to return in a worse form. In response, the masses will be forced into spontaneous acts of rebellion and uprisings, getting more intense with the farcical election cycle of 2028.

The only recourse for the class-conscious worker is to bring proletarian leadership over the disorganized struggle, preventing the other classes from imposing their own leadership. This means making Maoism incarnate, bringing organization and stable forms of organizations to the disorganized and justified mass rebellions, so that the masses who clamor for leadership can be mobilized more and better to go further than what is permitted by the exploiting classes. Ultimately, it is the masses of workers who must be mobilized in carrying out the program for the reconstitution of their political party, distinct from and opposed to the parties of all other classes.
