The Midterm Travesty

Editorial Board

Read our two-part editorial series on the 2026 midterm electoral farce here and here.

The Democratic and Republican monopoly mafias show increased desperation to draw voters into their camps. What they have accomplished instead is a vivid portrayal of why the people have by and large lost faith in their parties and as an extension, in voting.

Donald Trump’s second administration is deeply unpopular. His approval rating hit 31% in mid-October, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll—a historic low for Trump but not out of the ordinary for mafia dons who have started wars of aggression abroad.

In 1952, Harry Truman had 22% approval amid an economic crisis as the Korean people dealt blows to the imperialist aggressors. Jimmy Carter had 19% approval in 1979 during an economic crisis aggravated by a global fuel crisis brought about by fear of the Iranian revolution and Iranian oil workers striking and halting exports. In 2009, George W Bush sat at 22% approval amid an economic crisis and the wars of aggression against Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, in 2026, Donald Trump rates 31% approval during a worsening economic crisis exacerbated by tariffs and the war of aggression against Iran.

The writing is on the wall. Nonetheless, Trump in his desperation begs voters to vote as if he were running. This is what the Democratic mafia also hopes, as its one virtue is that the gangster Trump is not a member of its criminal enterprise.

This situation brings the Democrats to a new level of swindling, one in which they no longer deny the existence of the economic crisis as they did under the Biden administration. Biden characterized the crisis-ridden US economy under his presidency as being “stronger than ever for all Americans”, a position that helped hand the last elections to Trump and the Republican mafia. Today, the Democratic mafia speaks of affordability as a talking point, leaning into the crisis and pretending it is the sole result of Trump’s corruption and policies, apparently hoping their support base is too stupid to remember their situation three years ago.

Both mafias treat the midterm elections with an air of existential crisis. The far-right criminal Steve Bannon commented that a loss of the midterms and a loss in the presidential election would result in prison time for him and his cohort. Following the same pattern, the Democratic mafia makes the elections a matter of the existence of “democracy”, as if its corpse were not already stinking.

In the face of this travesty, the working people and their compatriots have only one decision that does not directly lend false legitimacy to their unfit and undeserving rulers: to reject participation in the shambolic and offensive elections, to be drawn forward in the fight for revolution and not backward into the swamps of voting. Every working man and woman who has voted for either mafia knows damn well what it feels like to regret voting as things get worse, more backward, and more expensive regardless of who wins. Boycott the electoral farce and fight for revolution!
