The White House claims an assassination attempt was made against ultra-reactionary President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, DC on April 25. Video footage shows Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other officials rushing out of the ballroom after gunfire erupts and security rushes the stage.
According to prosecutors, the assailant, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, opened fire as he charged toward the ballroom. A Secret Service officer was struck but survived. Trump was unharmed. Allen was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.
Allen produced a statement regarding the action in advance in justification of the attack: “What my representatives do reflects on me… And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”
Allen denounced the barbaric conditions in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities, the fishermen murdered by US imperialism near Venezuela and Latin America, Iranian civilians killed in the US-Israeli war of aggression, and the sexual abuse committed by finance monopolist Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.
Allen faces federal charges and a sentence of life in prison if convicted. He remains in custody ahead of trial. His attorneys raised concerns about his jail conditions, including an initial placement on suicide watch in a padded cell with constant lighting and restricted access to communication. He was later moved to suicide precautions and then placed in protective custody, where he is held separately from other inmates. A federal judge said he was “very troubled” by the conditions and apologized to Allen during a hearing on May 4.
US imperialist politicians and lackeys abroad have denounced the attack and called for “peace” while continuing their support for US imperialist aggression around the world.
Former US President Barack Obama, who holds the record for the most deportations in the US and extended US imperialist aggression across the Greater Middle East, said about the attack, “it’s incumbent upon all of us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy.”
Sell-out Venezuelan Interim President Delcy Rodríguez, who has been facilitating US imperialist domination of Venezuela after the US kidnapping of President Maduro, wrote, “violence will never be an option for those of us who defend the banners of peace.”
The Nazi-Zionist Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has overseen the assassination of numerous anti-imperialist leaders in the region while continuing to carry out genocides against the people, wrote that he was “shocked by the attempted assassination”.
