Responsible for countless crimes against humanity, Fujimori was not convicted for these acts, especially against the Peruvian people and the revolutionary process led by the PCP [The Communist Party of Peru], which, at the time, was in full expansion after 12 years of development. His crimes were classified only as “homicides” by the court, ignoring their true seriousness as crimes against humanity.

The reactionary former president of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, passed away this Wednesday, September 11, at his home in the San Borja neighborhood, in Lima. Fujimori is remembered for having implemented a fascist government in Peru that saw a series of massacres against the Peruvian people with the central objective of stopping the advance of the Peruvian Revolution, led by the Communist Party of Peru (PCP) under the direction of Abimael Guzmán Reynoso, Chairman Gonzalo. Today, the Revolution is still ongoing.

Dina Boluarte’s reactionary government decreed three days of national mourning for the genocide’s death. Boluarte will fly the Peruvian flag at half-mast in public buildings, military installations and diplomatic headquarters abroad. The reactionary’s decree also demands that Fujimori’s burial be with honors corresponding to a sitting president.

The honors are incompatible with Alberto Fujimori’s genocidal and country-selling record. While Boluarte’s government treats Fujimori as an honorable individual, the Novo Peru Association described the former president as a “miserable unprincipled character, bloodthirsty hyena, lackey of imperialism and reaction”. The group also stated that “the people will never forget” Fujimori’s crimes.

Massacres and paramilitary groups

Among the most notorious crimes committed under his command are the Barrios Altos massacre and the La Cantuta massacre.

The Barrios Altos massacre, which occurred in 1991, was perpetrated by the Colina Group, a paramilitary linked to Fujimori’s government, which attacked a community event, resulting in the deaths of 15 people and injuries to 4 others.

In the La Cantuta massacre, in 1992, Fujimori authorized the kidnapping, torture, and murder of a professor and nine students from the University of La Cantuta, accused of sympathizing with the PCP. Paramilitary groups, such as the ronderos , under his coordination, collaborated directly with the reactionary Peruvian Army in the repression of guerrillas and peasants, resulting in torture and murder in Peruvian villages.

In addition to the massacres, Fujimori implemented a policy of forced sterilization, which affected more than 350,000 Peruvian women and a significant number of men, treated as targets of population control and political repression. During his rule, paramilitary forces and the army carried out cruel operations against peasants and guerrillas, leading to widespread torture and murders.

While Fujimori received clemency in his final years due to reasons of health and age, the same consideration was not extended to revolutionaries and fighters of the Peruvian people, such as Abimael Guzmán, head of the PCP, who remained in severe prison conditions and without adequate medical care until his death on September 11, 2021.

Alberto Fujimori was released from prison in December 2023 by decision of the Constitutional Court of Peru. Before he passed away, he was receiving treatment at the home of his daughter, Kiko, in the San Borja neighborhood of Lima, where he lived after his release from prison. According to his daughter, the burial will take place on Saturday the 14th, with Fujimori’s body being taken to the Campo Fé cemetery, in Huachipa, also in Lima.

Responsible for countless crimes against humanity, Fujimori was not convicted for these acts, especially against the Peruvian people and the revolutionary process led by the PCP, which, at the time, was in full expansion after 12 years of development. His crimes were classified only as “homicides” by the court, ignoring their true seriousness as crimes against humanity.
