Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that it struck US bases in Jordan on September 1, annihilating US personnel and destroying military infrastructure as part of its retaliatory operations following renewed US strikes against Iran.
Iran also targeted US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates with missile and drone strikes, and reportedly shot down a $30 million US MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
On August 30, US imperialism initiated strikes against Iran for the first time in a month, attacking Iran’s Larak Island and inflicting an unspecified number of casualties on Iranian servicemen and civilians. The US claims that the strikes targeted mine launchers used to fortify Iran’s ongoing defensive blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran began its retaliation by striking maintenance infrastructure at two US air bases in Jordan with missiles and drones later that day.
On Tuesday, the US struck a residence hosting a wedding in southern Iran, killing five—including a four-year old child—and wounding 68, according to Press TV. US Central Command claimed they were targeting the IRGC.
Iran’s defensive blockade of the Strait of Hormuz remains in effect as the IRGC continues to take actions against violating vessels, while Trump claims that the Strait is open. Crude exports from the Gulf were around nine million barrels per day (bpd) in August this year, compared to 17 million bpd in 2025.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that new bank sanctions would be placed against Iran, and that any entities that do business with the IRGC would be subject to sanctions. According to The Lancet Global Health, over 28 million people have been killed by US and European Union imposed sanctions worldwide between 1971 to 2021.
