Since May 20, Hamas’s military wing Al-Qassam Brigades have dealt numerous blows to Zionist forces throughout Gaza in a series of three operations titled “Stones of David”, referencing the Abrahamic story of how David took down the giant Goliath with a well-aimed stone.
The first operation took place in eastern Khan Younis in southern Gaza, where Al-Qassam Brigades carried out a multi-phase attack on occupation forces. According to the military wing, “The fighters deceived the enemy by employing the ‘Wolf-Howl’ tactic, luring the troops toward a tunnel shaft that had been pre-rigged with explosives. They detonated the shaft on the enemy soldiers, closed in at point-blank range, then drew the rescue forces in and blew up two additional anti-personnel devices among them. After that, the fighters detonated three buildings in which the enemy forces had fortified themselves.”
Five days later, on May 25, Hamas forces “targeted a Zionist infantry patrol consisting of ten soldiers with an anti-personnel shell, resulting in deaths and injuries in the Atatra area of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip on May 25,” the Brigades wrote in a statement.
On Friday, May 30, Hamas released a video and description of the third Stones of David operation. After an Israeli solider is shown being sniped in Shuja’iyya, east of Gaza City, Al-Qassam forces “lure a zionist infantry force to the ambush area” where they are met with explosives.
Also on Friday, Al-Qassam Brigades released a video targeting undercover elite Israeli forces working with criminal Palestinian elements. According to the Brigades, the undercover and collaborationist elements engage in “house clearing operations and in the search for tunnels and resistance fighters” as well as “planting explosives and booby-trapping homes.” The lumpenproletarian elements have also been utilized by Israel in its genocidal maneuvers around aid. The same bandits that previously looted and robbed UN aid trucks now carry out massacres at “aid” sites as part of the latest US-Israeli machinations using “aid” to displace and starve Palestinians.
Al-Qassam Brigades also carried out a joint action with Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s military wing Al-Quds Brigades, announced on May 30. The two forces targeted Israeli soldiers advancing on a hospital in Khan Younis with missiles and close-range combat.
Al-Quds Brigades have announced several successful operations over the past week as well, including attacking a house holding 10 Israeli soldiers as well as liquidating an entire Israeli unit in another booby-trapped building. The operations both took place in Khan Younis just two days apart.
Resistance forces have also recently launched a round of rocket attacks at Israel from within Gaza. Israeli military officials report that Hamas has produced hundreds of new rockets, with dozens capable of hitting central Israel.
The operations come in response to Israel’s faltering “Gideon’s Chariots” Operation, launched on May 18 aimed at the complete military occupation of the Gaza Strip. Israeli media reports that only about 50-60% of reservists called to duty have shown up amid the country’s intensifying political and economic crises. On May 28, over 1,000 Israeli military personnel signed a letter published on Israeli media monopoly Haaretz demanding an end to the war in Gaza. Meanwhile, the Israeli military assesses that Hamas still has 40,000 armed fighters operating in an “extensive tunnel system”, while a Saudi news site reports Al-Qassam Brigades has recruited 30,000 fighters.
