In the weeks following the Trump administration’s capitulation to the Yemeni armed resistance Ansar Allah, the anti-imperialist group has continued to carry out its attacks against Israel in defense of the Palestinian people.
The US-Ansar Allah ceasefire did not include Israel, which the anti-imperialist group has vowed to target until Israel’s siege is lifted on Gaza. In the aftermath of the heroic Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, Ansar Allah imposed a naval siege on the Zionist entity that has successfully caused significant economic damage, including forcing one of its main ports to close. More recently, Ansar Allah stated on May 20 that it is enforcing a naval blockade on Israel’s Haifa Port, its largest international seaport.
In addition to the naval blockade, Ansar Allah has been carrying out an aerial blockade on occupied Palestine over the past month. Its armed forces have repeatedly targeted Ben Gurion Airport on several occasions with missiles, forcing airplanes to divert and causing numerous cancellations. A May 4 ballistic missile attack hit the main terminal of the airport and caused several injuries and significant economic damage, with around 20 airlines temporarily suspending flights to and from Israel. The frequent missile and drone attacks have contributed to the decline in tourism in Israel, a major economic sector. The Bank of Israel has estimated a loss of over 25% to the tourism sector in 2024 compared to 2023 owing to the war, with Ansar Allah playing an important role in this.
On May 29, Ansar Allah Commander Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr El-Din al-Houthi noted the successes of their operations after detailing Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and Muslims broadly.
“This week Yemen launched 14 hypersonic/ballistic missiles and a drone at targets in Yafa, Haifa, Asqalan, and Umm al-Rashrash,” the commander stated. “The Red Sea remains closed to ‘israeli’ shipping; no enemy-linked vessel moves between Bab al-Mandab, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea.”
Commander al-Houthi also touched on the significant mobilization of the Yemeni masses in defense of Palestine, citing “over 2,112,701 public actions—demonstrations, marches, vigils—have been held in Yemen in 20 months; last Friday alone saw 1,060 rallies across cities and countryside.”
He also spoke about the US’s defeat in its latest undeclared war on Yemen: “Western consensus admits the U.S. escalation’s second round failed; the U.S. vice-president said Washington must accept it can no longer dominate as before. America now sees Yemen as an unwinnable drain.”
Following recent Israeli attacks on Yemen’s main airport in its capital Sanaa, Ansar Allah has promised to heighten its retaliation against the Zionists, stating that “upcoming operations will differ in quantity and substance from the previous operations” and will include targeting Israel’s civilian airlines. Israel has destroyed Yemen’s civilian airlines through targeted attacks over the past few weeks. An attack on May 28 destroyed a plane used to transport civilians to Mecca for the Islamic pilgrimage as well as patients seeking medical attention outside of the country.
On May 31, a source in the Yemeni Ministry of Defense promised “Our armed forces, represented by our air defenses, will make the zionist enemy’s aircraft a source of ridicule in the coming days.”
