U.S. Imperialists Capitulate to Yemeni Armed Resistance With Ceasefire

Jacob Montag

On Tuesday (May 6), the Trump administration announced the implementation of a ceasefire deal with the Yemeni anti-imperialist forces of Ansarallah, bringing an end to the U.S. bombing campaign against Yemen that has been ongoing since March. The ceasefire stipulates that Yemeni forces cease their attacks on U.S. military vessels in the Red Sea and the US will cease its genocidal bombing campaign against the Yemeni people.

However, the Ansarallah-enforced blockade against Israel will continue until hostilities against the West Bank and Gaza are brought to an end, according to statements from the Yemeni resistance to monopoly media. Just before the announcement of the deal, Ansarallah struck Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, bypassing US-Zionist air defenses, and the resistance forces have since announced multiple drone strikes against Israeli targets.

The ceasefire deal represents a victory for Ansarallah and the broader armed anti-imperialist forces throughout the Middle East. The US imperialist air and naval campaign against Yemen under Trump was a continuation of the failed military actions of the Biden administration against the country. In March, the ultra-reactionary Trump, with typical hubris and bravado, stated that U.S. forces would unleash “overwhelming lethal force” against the Yemeni resistance until they capitulated to his administration’s demand for an end to the blockade against the genocidal Zionist state of Israel.

Instead, the floundering and overextended forces of U.S. imperialism have met defeat at the hands of the Yemeni resistance. On April 28, the U.S.S. Harry Truman was forced to make a sharp turn to avoid rocket attacks from Ansar Allah, causing a $60 million U.S. F-18 fighter jet to slide off the surface of the aircraft carrier and into the Red Sea. Additionally, in the past two months, seven Predator drones have been shot down by Yemeni rocket fire, each of which cost $28 million to manufacture. According to a report in The Intercept, the imperialists are concealing casualty figures in the war of aggression against Yemen.

The Trump administration’s bombing campaign against Yemen has claimed the lives of over 250 people since its initiation in March. Despite the human cost, the people of Yemen have courageously fought on, imposing an enormous economic cost on both Israel and U.S. imperialism as they wage their genocidal war against the Palestinians. Now, the bloodshed in Yemen has come to an end, but the economic pain for Israel, and by extension U.S. imperialism, will continue to be imposed by the resistance.
