Anti-ICE Uprisings Rage Across the Country: As Repression Increases, so does Militant Resistance

In the week following the start of the uprising against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles, demonstrations in solidarity with LA and against local ICE raids have flared across the country. Since the initial spark, Democrats and Republicans have acted as two heads of the same beast trying to quell the rebellion. Trump deployed the Marines and National Guard to LA and multiple states deployed their National Guard as well, while the Democrats and their aligned opportunists and revisionists have collaborated with law enforcement and attempted to take hold of the mass rebellion in order to stifle it.

This repression has only fueled further resistance by the masses, and cities from across the country have since followed the lead of LA. Here are some notable examples over the past week, following from our coverage here.

Omaha, NE

On June 10^th, ICE agents raided a meat production plant in Omaha. Workers at the plant quickly gathered to protest the raid and block the federal caravan carrying those arrested. Protesters began to throw objects at the vehicles, shattering one window completely. Two protesters reportedly jumped on the hood of a car as it was attempting to drive off.

Atlanta, GA

Hundreds gathered along the Buford highway to protest the raids and deportations on June 10^th. Police begin arrests around 7:30pm, claiming that the protests have continued past the time the organizers agreed to end. Protesters resisted, throwing rocks and setting off fireworks at the police as they were attempting to disperse the crowd. In one video, protesters are seen climbing on the hood of a police car and kicking in the front windshield.

Seattle, WA

On June 10^th, a small group of protesters gathered at the vehicle ramps at the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building, which houses immigration courthouses. They spent the morning and afternoon fighting the police, blocking the ramp with electric scooters so vehicles couldn’t exit and replacing the blockages whenever police attempted to remove them. Some protesters were arrested later in the evening for allegedly pointing lasers into the eyes of officers and tearing down and burning American flags. The next day a larger protest gathered at the Federal Building in the evening. The group threw dozens of e-bikes and scooters at the building, piling them in front of doors and the exit to the parking garage. These piles were zip-tied together to stop ICE vehicles from leaving. Protesters also set fire to a dumpster one block over, burned an American flag, painted the building with slogans, and fought back against the Seattle Police Department by throwing rocks, cement, and fireworks.

Tucson, AZ

On June 11^th, 300 protesters in Tucson marched through the city to an ICE office where they faced off against security. Protesters pushed back against the guards with makeshift shields on the front line while those behind them launched rocks, bottles, and paint balls. The guards attempted to pepper spray the crowd and shoot rubber bullets but the protesters held their line. One protester can be seen in a video spraying the guards with what is believed to be paint while another throws a metal fence at them, forcing the guards to make a quick retreat.
