Israel carried out airstrikes across Gaza on October 28 after accusing Hamas of delaying the return of the bodies of prisoners of war killed by US-Israel operations and after an Israeli soldier was killed in Rafah. Over 100 Palestinians were killed in the bombings, almost half of them children. According to the Israeli government, they informed the US prior to carrying out the strikes, highlighting the US’s role in the massacres.
The intense bombing campaign repeats a similar breech on October 19, when Israel attacked Palestinians across Gaza under the same excuses. Despite such claims, Hamas has not violated the ceasefire agreements, as it had been established from the start of the October 10 ceasefire that the hand over of bodies would take some time given that Israel transformed the landscape of Gaza into rubble and there is hardly any heavy machinery remaining to dig through it. Israel continues to delay lifting its starvation blockade and allowing in the entrance of heavy machinery, supplies, and workers for the reconstruction of Gaza.
Additionally, last time the Zionists claimed Hamas killed their soldiers during the present ceasefire, it had been revealed that the Israeli soldiers had been killed by unexploded ordinance while leveling Gaza’s infrastructure in areas under its occupation—something that has continually killed Palestinians as they try to retrieve bodies from the rubble. Hamas has once again denied any responsibility for the latest deaths.
Resistance faction Palestinian Islamic Jihad condemned the attacks, stating that Israel was “obstructing the recovery of its own soldiers’ bodies” to “mislead public opinion and blame the resistance.”
Israel has throughout its existence repeatedly violated ceasefires when opportune in order to try to maximize its position, including the past two Gaza ceasefires in March 2025 and November 2023. During its ceasefires, it continues to violate it in every aspect, such as limiting aid and carrying out sporadic—and sometimes intensive—strikes, just as it continues to do in Lebanon as well.
Israel refuses to admit its defeat at the hands of the Palestinian resistance, which would signal its death knell, and can only continue acting according to its impotent genocidal logic hoping with each mass killing there will be somehow be a different outcome.
Each time it violates the ceasefire, Israel claims it is in response to Hamas or other resistance forces violating it first. The Israeli government in part justified its latest bombing spree with a video claiming to show members of Hamas staging the discovery of bodies in order to delay handing them over. However, the video has not been independently verified, and the propaganda arm of the Israeli state is known for staging fictitious events to justify genocide.
For example, in February 2024 the Israeli government published a video claiming that aid was reaching Gaza at a time when the United Nations stated Gaza was on the brink of famine. Later, the video had been exposed for being mostly comprised of footage of Ukrainian refugees receiving aid in Europe.
Likewise, the Israeli government staged an interview with who it claimed to be a nurse at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza to justify its 2023 destruction of the facility, a blatant war crime.
The Palestinian resistance factions continue to abide by the ceasefire while promising to never disarm as long as the occupation continues.
