The Supreme Court blocked President Donald Trump’s maneuvers to increase executive oversight of the elections less than two months before the midterm electoral farce.
In March, Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to compile a State Citizenship List to be given to each state’s chief election officer. States that use the US Postal Service (USPS) to transmit mail-in ballots would then provide USPS with a list of eligible voters, who would receive ballots with unique identifying barcodes. The federal government would therefore have two opportunities to determine who can vote by mail.
The executive order claims the changes are necessary to prevent non-citizens from voting in order to “enhance election integrity” and maintain “public confidence in election outcomes”.
The Democratic mafia immediately challenged the executive order, filing a lawsuit alleging that the executive order goes beyond presidential authority and curtails Congress’ power over the elections.
In the 2024 presidential farce, about a third of the electorate voted by mail, according to the US Election Assistance Commission. Democratic mafia supporters voted by mail at a ratio of about 3:2 compared to Republican mafia supporters, according to the MIT Election Data and Science Lab.
The trend of concentrating power in the executive branch corresponds with the increasingly farcical nature of the elections as the two parties vie to be the sole representative of the US monopoly class. Executive oversight over who is eligible for mail voting further intensifies the crisis of legitimacy of the ruling class. It gives more room to manipulate votes on the one hand and more room for the losing party to traffic in the illegitimacy of the elections on the other.
The struggle between the two mafias has grown particularly sharp since Trump returned to office, and has further accelerated with the growing prospect of a Republican defeat in the November midterms. Both mafias have engaged in a frenzied tit-for-tat gerrymandering battle across the country in preparation, attempting to nullify votes for the opposition party and create new seats for their own parties.
Several Supreme Court justices have indicated that they will support the executive order stipulations after the midterms, setting the stage for a greater conflict between the two mafias in the 2028 presidential farce.
