Thousands of Palestinians began celebrating the ceasefire today (1/15) after the announcement by the Israeli Broadcasting Authority that the Nazi-Zionist state of Israel had accepted the agreement. Hamas had already announced its acceptance. The agreement fulfills the tactical objective of boosting the organization of the resistance and was supported by other organizations, such as the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The defeated Benjamin Netanyahu, who initially denied it, was forced to accept the agreement.
The ceasefire should begin within two or three days, according to sources in Qatar. The guidelines established in the agreement by Hamas initiate a six-week ceasefire, the total withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from central Gaza, the return of the population displaced by the Zionist aggression to the north of the enclave and the release of more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners, including Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment. In exchange, 33 Israeli captives will initially be handed over by the resistance.
The terms confirm the initiative of the Palestinian National Resistance regarding the agreement. The ceasefire, even if it is violated by the Zionist state, allows the National Resistance forces to reorganize, requires the withdrawal of Zionist troops from Palestinian territory and swells the ranks of the Resistance, whether through popular support from Palestinians in Gaza or recently liberated, or through de facto membership in patriotic organizations.
Furthermore, the Palestinian National Resistance has shown that a people can, by applying the correct methods of armed struggle, build their own armed forces and, with the support of the popular masses, destroy the most powerful armies.
“The agreement to stop the aggression against Gaza is an achievement for our people, our resistance, our nation and the free peoples of the world. It marks a fundamental stage in the ongoing struggle against the enemy, paving the way for achieving the goals of liberation and return of our people,” Hamas declared in an official statement.
The atmosphere in the Gaza Strip is one of celebration. Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets with flags of the National Resistance organizations. A journalist was lifted on the shoulders of the people as he announced the ceasefire.
Netanyahu in hot water
At the same time, on the side of the Zionist occupation, demonstrations condemned the delay of the Nazionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in accepting the agreement. Initially, Netanyahu denied the possibility of signing a ceasefire, but due to the imminent risk of internal collapse in Israel, he was forced to accept the conditions, according to analysts from the Al Jazeera portal.
Netanyahu, who promised to “end the war on the sole condition of the complete destruction of Hamas”, ended up with a complete political and military defeat. The State of Israel is in an unprecedented level of international isolation, with condemnations of the State and its representatives in international courts. Boycotts, sabotage and protests condemn Zionism all over the world. Israel failed to carry out a Second Nakba, to carry out ethnic cleansing and to destroy the Palestinian National Resistance.
US imperialism pressured the signing of the agreement with its own conditions, which were made impossible by the resistance. The reactionary US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has advocated that the collaborationist “Palestinian Authority” should govern the Gaza Strip after the resolution of the agreements. However, the fact remains that Hamas is the main organizer of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
