A rooftop sniper fired on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, Wednesday morning (9/24). Monopoly media reports that the shooter, identified by the FBI as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, fired at an unmarked van killing one ICE detainee at the scene while wounding two others, leaving ICE agents unharmed. One of the wounded later died at the hospital. According to the police, Jahn was subsequently found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
Norlan Guzman-Fuentes, 37 year old worker, was the detainee killed during the shooting according to monopoly media, citing his family. Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, 32, house painter and father, died in the hospital on September 29. Jose Andres Bordones-Molina, delivery driver, remains in the hospital, his medical condition not revealed by the federal government. Garcia-Hernández’s family reported to monopoly media that he had remained chained to the hospital bed after the shooting.
It remains unclear whether the shooting was an attack on ICE that happened to hit detainees, whether it was an attack on immigrants, or something else. Despite this, FBI Director Kash Patel soon after the shooting posted a photo of an unspent rifle round with “ANTI-ICE” written on it. Before an investigation could begin, he declared “an ideological motive” behind the attack, indicating the farcical nature of the state’s response to the shooting. Later, the FBI claimed they found documents of Jahn’s indicating he wanted to inflict “real terror” on ICE agents.
In response to the shooting, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons stated that “People always ask me what’s the thing that keeps me up at night. It’s the safety of the men and women of ICE.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, “We’re going to hire more ICE officers. We’re going to go out and hire more law enforcement officers.” Reactionaries across the board expressed their condolences to police and ICE officers, despite the victims of this shooting being detainees of ICE. They also blamed “Radical Left Democrats” for inciting “divisive rhetoric” against ICE, even though the Democrat mafia has continued to expand and fund ICE on the federal and state levels.
Democracy Now! has reported their investigations into the politics of Jahn show he was a far-cry from a “radical leftist”, casting doubt onto the story of the FBI and the Trump administration. The report paints Jahn as a socially-isolated man heavily invested in “4Chan”, a reactionary internet site, whose friends describe him as “libertarian” and guessed the “Anti-ICE” writing on shell casings was potentially a joke rather than a serious political stance. Libertarianism is a right-wing ideology in favor of “free trade”, unregulated industry, and bourgeois individualism.
