US imperialism and Israel began jointly bombing civilian and military targets across Iran in the early morning of February 28, and Iran has responded in self-defense with continuing strikes against Israeli military targets and US military bases across the Greater Middle East.
Hundreds of civilian and military sites across Iran have been struck by the US-Zionist bombs, according to monopoly media and Iranian media reports. Over 200 people in Iran have been killed by the attacks, with more than 700 people injured, according to Iranian media. Among the criminal strikes on the oppressed country was a girl’s elementary school in the city of Minab, in which at least 115 children were murdered by the US-Zionist criminals.
Trump stated on social media 12 hours after the aggression began that Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of Iran, was among those killed in the US-Zionist aggression. Iranian media has since verified the news of Khamenei’s assassination, while also stating that multiple members of his family have been killed. Other top Iranian government and military leaders have been targeted in the US and Israeli strikes.
Trump said on Truth Social that his objective is “peace throughout the Middle East” and that the aggression will continue “as long as it takes” to overthrow the Iranian government. Trump appealed to pro-US forces in Iran through social media, saying, “When we are finished, take over your government.”
Iranian officials have declared the government and people’s determination to resist, with the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council saying, “The brave soldiers and the great nation of Iran will give an unforgettable lesson to the international oppressive hellish ones,” referring to the US-Zionist aggressors. Masses of people have taken to the streets in Iran since the aggression began, demonstrating against US imperialism and proclaiming support for the national resistance.
In its defensive operation dubbed “True Promise 4,” Iran has launched multiple waves of drones and missiles against US and Israeli military targets, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, which hosts US and British imperialist forces. The Iranian military reports striking two US Navy support ships and killing “a large number” of US soldiers stationed in military bases across the Middle East.
The arch-reactionary Trump justified initiating the criminal aggression against the oppressed country by saying “this terrorist regime can never have a nuclear weapon,” while also falsely claiming that Iran was constructing missiles capable of targeting the United States. Iranian officials deny they are developing nuclear weapons or such missiles while refusing to accede to imperialist demands to disarm or cease their civilian nuclear energy program.
Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key strategic waterway that controls entry and exit out of the Persian Gulf, strangling global oil circulation as part of its defensive actions. The resistance organization Ansarallah in Yemen announced that they would resume their blockade in the Red Sea with attacks against Zionist and US targets there.
The aggression is not only contained to Iran. Iraqi resistance organization Kata’ib Hezbollah announced that their bases have been struck in the US–Israeli attacks as well, with at least three confirmed killed.
This latest US-Zionist attack follows a series of escalating attacks against Iran by the United States and Israel. The aggression follows US imperialism entering into negotiations with Iran to demand the country cease its nuclear energy program and dismantle its own military capabilities, only for the US to torpedo the negotiations through military actions as it did in June last year. The “12-Day War” of US-Zionist aggression against Iran in June 2025, which came from the last devious US imperialist negotiations with Iran, ended in a ceasefire after Iran was able to inflict heavy damage to Israeli and US military targets in retaliation.
