Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after Israel continued to carry out strikes on Lebanon and Iran in violation of the ceasefire.
After failing to met their objectives and suffering heavy losses, the US and Israel agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran on April 7 to negotiate on the basis of Iran’s ten-point proposal. The proposal includes Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, an end to all US-Israeli aggression in the region, rescinding all sanctions on Iran, and the withdrawal of US forces from the region. The ceasefire is to apply to all fighting in the region, including Israel’s invasion of Lebanon.
The Iranian government asserted that it would only proceed with the ceasefire as long as it is respected by the US and Israel and the negotiations focus on Iran’s proposals. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said in a statement, “Our fingers are on the trigger”, and that they are ready to resume their defensive war should the ceasefire be violated.
In addition to closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz, several top Iranian officials have confirmed that Iran will carry out retaliatory strikes against Israel for its continued attacks on Lebanon and Hezbollah, the anti-imperialist party leading the Lebanese resistance efforts against the Zionist invasion.
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, said of Israel on Wednesday, “with a heavy and decisive strike, we must prevent the rabid dogs and the cancerous tumor of the region from their sabotage,” adding, “The Lebanese sacrificed their lives for us, and we must not leave them alone for a moment. Ceasefire either on all fronts or on no front.”
Following the announcement of the ceasefire, Israel carried out some of its heaviest attacks on Lebanon and its capital Beirut since the start of its invasion last month, with over 1,300 Lebanese casualties reported in the last 24 hours. Hezbollah has continued its resistance and defense of Lebanese national sovereignty, with the Israeli military suffering several causalities.

“This unbridled criminality is a clear expression of the disappointment suffered by the enemy… finding itself besieged by the reality of its defeat, unable and shackled from changing the equations imposed by the steadfastness of the peoples of Iran and Lebanon,” Hezbollah said in a statement on the massacres.
According to Hezbollah, over 100 Israeli tanks and vehicles have been destroyed since Israel’s invasion of Lebanon, which has proved even more disastrous for the Zionist invaders than previous attempts. Hezbollah had prepared numerous ambushes for Israeli troops and carried out missile and rocket attacks deep into Israeli occupied territory despite Zionist politicians claiming that Hezbollah had been defeated.
Iran launched its 100th wave of Operation True Promise 4 as its final major operation before the ceasefire. According to Iran’s military, the missile and drone attack targeted 13 US-affiliated energy and oil complexes; ten military, security, and logistical targets; and several technology and infrastructure targets.
Iranian officials have confirmed preparations are underway for a punishing military response to Israel’s ceasefire violations.
