Iran Suspends Negotiations with US, Demands Imperialist Aggression End in Lebanon

Iran suspended negotiations with the US on June 1, demanding an end to Israel’s offensive in Lebanon and signaling its readiness to escalate military and economic pressure against both the Zionist entity and US imperialism.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared, “If an agreement is reached to end the war between Iran and the United States, it will include a halt to attacks on all fronts, especially in Lebanon.”

Soon after Iran stepped away from the negotiations, the US moved to restrain its regional attack dog Israel, which was threatening to attack the Lebanese capital Beirut. Trump announced that he had a “very productive call” on June 1 with genocidal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “There will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance organization Hezbollah continues winning battles against the invading Zionists with careful ambushes and annihilating Israeli positions inside Lebanon with first-person-view drone strikes. Even the monopoly outlet The New York Times has admitted that the Lebanese resistance is more capable today than it was at the start of the Zionist invasion.

Iran’s position in the negotiations is backed by its continued ability to impose costs on US imperialism throughout the region, as seen in its tit-for-tat responses to ongoing US aggression.

On May 27, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck a US military base in the Persian Gulf in retaliation for US airstrikes near Bandar Abbas International Airport. The same week, Iranian air defenses shot down two US drones. Iranian officials warned that any future aggression would be met with a proportional response.

Alongside these military victories, Iran has continued to economically challenge US imperialism and its allies through its control of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has struck US naval vessels and US-Zionist merchant ships in the region in response to US imperialist aggression against Iranian merchant vessels in the last week, according to IRGC and Iranian military statements.

Iranian leaders have also raised the prospect of intensifying pressure on global shipping routes. Iran is reportedly considering a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz and a coordinated effort among the Axis of Resistance to shut down the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a major shipping route connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

These military and economic pressures have forced concessions from the US imperialists. The US recently announced plans to lift restrictions on Iranian ports and shipping, a move Iranian media identified as a prerequisite demanded for any broader de-escalation.

The US has continued its aggression against Iran, striking an Iranian oil tanker and an IRGC communications facility near the Strait of Hormuz this week. In response, Iran launched strikes against US positions in Kuwait and Bahrain. Satellite imagery revealed damage to critical facilities at the targeted imperialist bases following the strikes.

“The Americans have no logic and understand nothing except force and power,” said Esmaeil Kowsari, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, while discussing the continual US imperialist violations of the ceasefire with Iran on June 3.
