Iranian strikes damaged and destroyed hundreds of structures on US bases in the Middle East from April 1 to June 30, according to a Department of War inspector general report released September 14.
US military infrastructure was struck in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, and Oman.
The report noted that dozens of US aircraft had been damaged or destroyed. 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones—costing $30 million each—were destroyed. Four F-15E fighter jets were destroyed, three of which allegedly from friendly fire.
Iranian strikes on the Bahrain Navy base in February, previously the Navy’s main logistics hub in the region, forced the US military to move supplies to more distant facilities after it was rendered ineffective, according to The Wall Street Journal. The base remains abandoned and extensively damaged.
The report claimed that US munition usage against Iran has produced severe supply deficiencies and revealed munition resupply bottlenecks. Between one-half and two-thirds of the US’s missile interceptors have likely been used since June 2025, when the US and Israel carried out a nearly two-week war against Iran, according to a Congressional Budget Office estimate.
The report estimates the cost of the war to be $33.4 billion, not accounting for repair costs or the resulting inflation forced onto workers. Public finance lecturer Linda Bilmes estimated in July that the real upfront cost was about $120 billion, when not using pre-war munition prices.
The US officially claims only 19 American fatalities in the Iran War and over 820 wounded, although five officials told The Washington Post that the true fatality count is at least 22.
The US has so far failed to achieve any of its objectives in its war of aggression. According to the report, US imperialism aimed to “dismantle the Iranian regime’s security apparatus, including its missile production and naval capabilities, and to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.”
The Islamic Republic remains in power and has organized massive, nightly rallies in support of its war of national resistance. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) organized a large-scale volunteer drill on September 18, training the population for a nationwide defense initiative officials say 33 million Iranians signed up for.
US intelligence and monopoly media have reported that Iran still largely retains its military capabilities and continues missile and drone production, and has expanded its reach through the victories of allied resistance forces in the region, such as Ansar Allah’s lightening offensive in early September. Iran has also protected its enriched uranium and nuclear capabilities, though the government has repeatedly stated that it is not pursuing nuclear weapons.
In his remarks to the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, Trump questioned whether he should “annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell?”
The following day, Iranian President Pezeshkian addressed the assembly, rebutting Trump’s threats and asserting, “We Iranians will never bow our heads or bend our knees.”
