Ansarallah Expands Counterattacks on US and Israel

Over the last week, the Yemeni anti-imperialist organization Ansarallah has been ramping up its attacks on Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance. On Friday (01/03), warning sirens blared across more than 150 cities in Israel as a Yemeni missile penetrated Israeli airspace, leaving 12 Israelis injured during the rush to shelter. A spokesman for the group has stated that they have launched 22 missiles and drones at Israeli and American targets over the last week alone.

The last week of strikes represents a significant escalation by Yemeni forces. In July 2024, Ansarallah launched its first major drone attack on Israel, targeting a US embassy branch in Tel Aviv resulting in several Israeli casualties. Two months later, Ansarallah successfully struck a military site in Tel Aviv using a hypersonic missile.

In late 2024, Ansarallah claimed successful attacks on Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, a power station south of Jerusalem, and the Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel. They also downed two $32 million American MQ-9 drones over Yemeni airspace—the 14th total since last year—and repelled an attack from a US aircraft carrier, shooting down an American F-18 fighter jet.

Ansarallah’s intensifying attacks come in response to increased US, British, and Israeli attacks on Yemen as well as the continuing US-Israel genocide in Palestine. The imperialist powers and Israel have ramped up bombings of civilian and military targets in Yemen, while Israel has recently made threats to assassinate the leaders of Ansarallah. A military spokesman for Ansarallah responded, stating that “Israeli aggression will not stop Yemen or its people from fulfilling their religious and moral duty to respond to the massacres in Gaza and the blatant attacks on our sovereignty.”

Ansarallah’s evolving aerial attacks add to its naval blockade of the Red Sea, which has continued for over a year and has caused significant economic damage to Israel’s economy as well as imperialist logistics monopolies. Ansarallah’s ability to escalate its counterattacks tit for tat, outmaneuver cutting-edge imperialist technology, and preempt imperialist aggression points to the decline of imperialism amid expanding and increasingly capable anti-imperialist resistance.
