On September 26, Nazi-Zionist Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered his address to a near-empty hall at the United Nations General Assembly after over 100 representatives of more than 50 countries walked out as he stepped on stage. Thousands of protesters rallied outside of the UN in opposition to the US-Israeli genocide that morning and in the weeks and months leading up to the General Assembly, where imperialists gathered to devise schemes of disarming the Palestinian resistance forces.
Netanyahu opened his speech with a string of lies about Israel’s successes in “crushing” the Palestinian armed resistance and anti-imperialist armed forces in the Middle East. In reality, resistance forces in Gaza, the West Bank, and within the occupied Zionist entity itself regularly inflict casualties on Zionist forces, in addition to frequent missile and drone attacks from Ansar Allah in Yemen.
In the face of their persistent defeats, Israel and its imperialist backers attempt to compensate with bombast and intensifying genocide. The butcher prime minister called for the escalation of the US-Israeli genocidal campaign, stating: “Israel must finish the job […] we want to do so as fast as possible.”
Outside, thousands of protesters marched from Times Square to the UN headquarters on the day of Netanyahu’s speech, taking over streets despite heavy police presence. Daily noise demonstrations have been taking place outside of the headquarters since late July ahead of the General Assembly. Organizers told The Worker that the daily protests were a response to “a call that came from the Palestinian resistance to be present outside of embassies, missions, and consulates.” They also aimed to “diminish the legitimacy of the UN so it doesn’t trick people,” exposing it as an arm of imperialism where “decisions are being made to continue the genocide and to continue the business and the profiting.”

The General Assembly overwhelmingly endorsed the New York Declaration, which calls for a “two-state solution,” the disarmament of the resistance, and the establishment of a demilitarized state under the comprador Palestinian Authority (PA). The Declaration was pushed by the Arab League and the European Union in a bid to increase their footing in the region as resistance forces continue to debilitate Israel and weaken the US’s position.
The hypocrisy of the imperialist powers backing the Declaration under the guise of “peace and security” is evident in their continued and expanding military support for Israel. France sent a record amount of weapons to Israel in 2024, England sent a record amount of weapons in June and August 2025, while recently leaked documents show that Australia has been and continues to covertly send F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel—all countries behind the New York Declaration. One protester told The Worker, “What does [recognition] even mean when there is a genocide going on?”
Following the announcements, Hamas released a statement affirming the imperialists’ capitulation to Palestinian statehood as a “deserved outcome of our people’s struggle, steadfastness, and sacrifices on the path to liberation and return,” and maintained that the occupation must continue to be resisted until the Palestinian people are free.
