The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah launched missiles and drones on March 1 at an Israeli missile defense site near Haifa in support of Iran’s defensive war against the US and Israel.
Hezbollah announced the attack aimed at avenging the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and “in defense of Lebanon and its people, and within the framework of responding to the repeated ‘israeli’ aggressions.” Khamenei was murdered by the US and Israel at the start of their war of aggression on February 28.
The attacks are the first from the anti-imperialist force since the November 2024 ceasefire Hezbollah conquered from Israel after defeating the Zionist hordes invading Lebanon. According to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Israel has violated the ceasefire over 15,400 times and murdered hundreds of Lebanese people.
Since the ceasefire, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem repeatedly stressed that “patience has limits,” referencing inaction from enforcing parties, including the Lebanese government and UN forces, to hold Israel accountable for its violations.
“The single rocket barrage was a response to fifteen months of violations and to ‘israel’s’ unrestricted aggression. It was a serious step to dispel any illusion that silence would bring calm,” Qassem said in a speech on Wednesday.
Israel has expanded its attacks on Lebanon and began another ground invasion. Zionist forces announced forced displacement orders covering wide swaths of southern Lebanon, including suburbs of the capital Beirut and two Palestinian refugee camps.
On Thursday, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced that over 120 people have been killed and more than 680 wounded in the latest Israeli attacks.
Hezbollah responded by calling for Israelis to evacuate the northern occupied territory as it expands its strikes on the Zionist entity. Hezbollah reports successfully annihilating several invading enemy tanks and soldiers, with Israeli media reporting “serious security incidents,” indicating heavy casualties.
Among those injured is fascist Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s son.
Within occupied territory, Hezbollah has targeted the Yoav military camp in the occupied Golan Heights, a navy base in Haifa port, and illegal Zionist settlements.
The range of Hezbollah’s attacks and the number of casualties among invading Zionist troops suggests Hezbollah maintains a high level of operational ability near the Israeli border, contrary to Zionist aims and expectations with the 2024 ceasefire.
“We made a mistake regarding Hezbollah; we didn’t expect them to fire with such intensity,” a senior Israeli official told Zionist media earlier this week.
Over the past year, the Lebanese government, at the behest of the US and Israel, has attempted to disarm Hezbollah while ignoring Israeli attacks. Following Hezbollah’s latest retaliation, the Lebanese Prime Minister banned the organization’s military activities. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army retreated from its border with Israel without engaging the invading enemy.
In addition to Hezbollah, other anti-imperialist forces in the region have joined the fight against the US and Israel. Iraqi resistance organizations under the umbrella of the Popular Mobilization Forces have continuously targeted US sites in the country, particularly a US military base and soldiers in Erbil. Ansar Allah in Yemen has announced the resumption of its Red Sea blockade, with a spokesperson saying, “our hands are on the trigger at any moment that developments require.”
