Iran has carried out waves of retaliatory strikes on US military assets in the region in response to US attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure that killed 50 people and left 500 injured.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) initiated Operation Nasr 2 on July 13, hitting US radar installations, troop gatherings, and aircraft shelters across Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. The IRGC also struck a US command center in southwestern Syria and an AI hub in Bahrain that was being used to support the war of aggression.
In Jordan, Operation Nasr-2’s ballistic missiles and drones penetrated air defenses to strike a US airbase, destroying at least two US fighter jets and annihilating at least three American troops. Following this successful strike, the IRGC issued a call to Jordanians: “Now that the US military… is within your reach, your religious and humanitarian duty is to eliminate them by any means and cleanse the sacred land of Jordan of those killers of oppressed Muslims.”
An additional US soldier was killed in Iraq on July 18. According to the Pentagon, nearly 100 US troops have been injured since July 7. A US defense official told The Intercept there is a “casualty cover-up” and that official figures put out by the government are low and outdated.
Iran’s army carried out separate retaliatory strikes as part of Operation Saeqeh, hitting US military assets in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, including ammunition warehouses and key logistical targets.
Iran’s official statements continue to stress that they are striking US installations used to attack Iran and that Iran is not targeting the countries that host these installations. According to analysts at Drop Site News, Iranian attacks are systematically dismantling the US-Zionist missile defense architecture in the region, while also inflicting high casualties on US soldiers.
Iran’s defense strikes are a response to US attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure. The US struck a desalination plant in southern Iran on July 18, leaving over 10,000 people across 20 villages without access to clean drinking water. The US also attacked civilian bridges, roads, railways, and airports in southern Iran. Such attacks are not only a cruel escalation of its war of aggression but also violate the Memorandum of Understanding and ceasefire signed by both sides on June 17.
In a statement regarding US attacks on civilian infrastructure, the IRGC said, “Let the child-killing US regime know that if it attacks bridges and transportation infrastructure, then, from now on, we will destroy the most important industrial, IT, and AI assets of companies with American shareholders in the region, wherever they may be, and we will level to the ground the most valuable assets of American companies in all countries hosting US bases.”
